SLO County Shenanigans

Yesterday and this morning have been spent mostly at the San Luis Obispo County Planning and Building department, and lets just say it's one of the worst places to be. Well, maybe not worst, but definitely on that list of top 10. I think I'd rather be in line at Starbucks at rush hour than spend 3+ hours there again. 

Let me explain: SLO County has the look of an old library, smells like the inside of a fridge with expired leftovers stocking it's shelves, and looks like an entire forest was used to decorate it--wood paneling and furniture galore. The people are usually really nice, from my experience, but when it comes to getting stuff processed, it's nearly impossible. The system they use isn't connected to each department, so someone has to constantly re-enter data just to update it, and it's very frustrating getting a print out of an update on a project with items that should be crossed off but aren't because of that very reason. Sooo, that's basically what I did yesterday--made sure everything was current on a project so the print out looked nice a neat. And it never quite got to that nice and neat look...FAK.

I never want to go back. 

But I'm betting I will be back some time this week.

What I can't live without

I just got my new hair straightener in the mail and let me tell you, it's heaven. I just can't live without my hair straightener, and having a new one is the best thing ever. It's not like I would die without it, but I really don't think I would last long. So if there ever is a zombie apocalypse or whatever, and the electricity goes out, and we are living off of a generator, and everyone gets a set number of minutes to use, I would spend them all on straightening my hair. 

It might sound silly to some (most maybs?) but it's what makes me happy. And isn't there a saying that says "do what makes you happy"? I'm not sure if they were talking about flat ironing the crap outta your hair, but that's what makes me smile so I'm going with it!

My college roommates would know that if I didn't get my hair straightened or my cup of coffee in the morning, I would be a super beezy to them. Strange how they avoided me whenever this happened...

Also, these are ADORABLE! Pretty prints puts at least a grin on my face, and Rifle Paper Co. always delivers: 

I'm one day away from my car registration deadline and I'm finally getting the good ol' Saturn smog checked. Cutting it close but that's okay. It's not like its fun to get your car smogged. I'd rather be straightening my hair, obvi.

TRAVEL BUG: San Fran

Hey peeps, 

I'm craving a weekend trip, and I really want to go to San Francisco! I just have to find a weekend that I'm not working...hmmm so it might be a while. I'm freelancing on weekends now, plus plotting how to raise money for Equality Now (more on that later, but if you are looking for a great book to read, THIS one is very intense and empowering!!)

I have always had a love for SF. I was supposed to go to college there, but for some reason I decided to switch my choice to Long Beach State at the last minute (which was the best decision ever, so it was worth it!). I usually visit the city every other year just about, but it's been a good 2-3 years now and I'm getting a craving again. I'm going to schedule a trip in my planner way in advance so I'll have time, otherwise I think I would just work year round without a second thought! Gotta make time for fun!!

Have a great weekend! I'm going to try to get some sun, and then burn and complain about it haha!

Adventure Time: Barre Fitness

Hey Peeps,

I've been looking for a new gym ever since my last one closed down unexpectedly last year, and have been taking my sweet time. I hate working out! I've never been that crazy into it, but I do like activities that get me moving and keep me interested, like dance. I used to do ballet forever, and I just found the perfect place to dance my way back into shape: Barre fitness classes (pronounced like "bar"). I'm taking the beginner class at Assets in downtown SLO on Saturday. I hope I like it so my (very lazy and slow) search can be over! Here's their website if you want to join me.

Since I've never done barre fitness before, I looked up some tips to help me prepare:

-Bring a yoga mat if you have one.

I definitely want to dress with some neon flair.
